Before the dollar amount of your reparation check is determined, let's take the American Civil War into consideration, and put some numbers on the table:
320,000: Estimated total number of white Union soldier deaths, including from combat and other causes directly related to their service. (In fairness, there were also an additional 40,000 black Union soldiers who also died from combat and other service-related causes.)
3,953,762: Total slave population at the onset of the war, as per the 1860 United States census. Doing the math, there was one Union soldier casualty for every twelve slaves, approximately. (The exact number, using the Union soldier casualty estimate above, works out to one dead Union soldier for every 12.355506 slaves.)
1: Total number of U.S. presidents assassinated as a direct result of trying to free your ancestors.
$68.17 billion: Total cost of the Union side of the war, in 2019 dollars.
With that out of the way, please present your total reparation ask, right down to the penny. Then, decide how much each Union soldier death on your behalf is worth to you in 2021 dollars, as well as what one Presidential death on your behalf is worth to you in 2021 dollars, and then add those Union and Presidential death toll figures to the $68.17 billion quoted above, and then subtract the whole shebang from your total reparation ask.
