Thick blanket of snow
fertile ground hidden beneath
You and I, apart

Cold winter sinks its
icy fangs into bare hands
My Muse, so distant

Frozen moonless sky
blankets the night with stillness
We find ourselves lost

Rest is not absence
sleep is not the same as death

Early hint of spring
first trickle of melting snow
Promise of bird songs

Clouds ready to burst
