Thank you for this great article!
I am a big believer in narrative therapy, particularly in situations where someone has had their narrative taken away by an abusive person or environment. With enough negative imprinting from others (or from situations where we weren’t able to exercise enough personal agency), we risk internalizing the narrative about ourselves that others foist on us. What you’re suggesting here is brilliant, because it encourages people to think in terms of incremental improvement, rather than trying to take on too much at once. Like trying to untangle a (seemingly) impossible knot (i.e. revamp our entire narrative at once), it is best to untangle one strand (i.e. revise one sentence) at a time — with enough strands taken care of, the whole structure of the knot starts to loosen and come apart.
Kudos!
